California hard rock outfit Black Star Riders have released a couple of trailers for their upcoming third album, Heavy Fire. The first clip features frontman Ricky Warwick explaining the writing process behind the album and the band’s upcoming U.K. tour. He comments:
“Myself and Damon Johnson work really well together. We went to our manager’s house in Southern California – he was away for a week so Damon flew in from Nashville and I drove down from my place in LA and we hung out there for a week. I brought in a bunch of ideas and lyrics and Damon brought in some stuff too. By the end of the four or five days we had ten or twelve solid songs together, which was great. We work very quickly together because we’re always very well prepared and we’re always writing individually.”
The second video also features Warwick alongside guitarists Damon Johnson and Scott Gorham discussing the band developing their sound. Gorham said:
“We’re absolutely finding our own sound. We’d been on a run with Thin Lizzy for 5 years, so it’s gonna always take a little while to find your feet with a new sound. But, everybody is an individual here and individually we all write differently anyway so you are going to come up with a different sound eventually. Which is what I think we’ve done with this album”
The group worked with producer Nick Raskulinecz (Rush, The Foo Fighters, Mastodon) at his studio outside of Nashville. Heavy Fire is scheduled to hit stores on February 3rd via Nuclear Blast Entertainment.
